KEEP YOUR HEART!
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” – Proverbs 4:23
The heart of man is the life of man, it is the total sum of man. Take away the heart and you have taken the life. The scripture says, “Keep thy heart…” not “keep thy leg” or “keep thy head” because a man may lose his legs or sustain an injury in the head and still survive. But if he is shot in the heart, it is instant death. So nothing requires your attention as much as your heart. Spiritually speaking, the heart represents the spirit of man. So, that scripture means to say, keep your spirit, and keep it with all diligence; with all seriousness.

Why all this attention on the heart? Because out of it are the issues of life. Your heart is the spring or fountain of your life. Proverbs 18:14 says, “The spirit of man will sustain his infirmity.” That means the spirit of man shall sustain him in all his afflictions. Your heart is the sustainer of your system in times of infirmity or afflictions. That is why breakdown is inevitable when the heart is out of place.

Secondly, your heart is satan’s target, He is always targeting your spirit man to hurt it and ultimately destroy it. So, you must guard, shield and protect your heart. One of the greatest duties that God gave to man is the keeping of his heart. God created your heart, delivered it to you but He will not keep it for you. When your heart or spirit man is attacked, every other thing about life is suspended. So, keep your heart!

How do the issues of life come forth from the heart? The issues of life belong to God and Proverbs 20: 27 says, “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord.” So, God communicates the issues of life to you through His candle, which is your spirit man. “For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalms 18:28). So, don’t get your spirit man vexed, don’t let your heart be bowed down, keep it with all diligence so that you can maintain absolute communication with God. God has no other way of communicating with you outside of your spirit man, when your spirit man is injured and battered then you are cut off from Him. Keep your heart and you will not cease to attract the issues of life from God.

The Bible says in Romans 10:19, “…If you confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (NKJV).
